Dedicated to Amena

If it wasn't for my oldest sister Amena, I would have never had an interest in sewing. As far back as I can remember, she has always been working on some kind of sewing project. Shirts, window treatments, scarves, dresses, hats, bedding... If it could be sewn, Amena was sewing it.

It's been a little over six years since I've taken my first sewing class. I haven't taken one since. But that was really all I needed. I still remember the basics (right sides together, 5/8 seam allowance, don't sew while sleepy...). Honestly, it only takes one class to conquer your fear of the machine. If you can sew a straight line, you can make pretty much anything. Once you successfully complete a project, sewing can become downright addictive. I figure it's better for my waistline. Goodbye foodgawker, hello craftgawker???

So cute! I can say that cause I made that... the kid and the apron! I used this tutorial.

It was incredibly easy. I would make a single change though. The directions say to cut the 2 inch strips for the ties off of the long side first. Instead, I suggest cutting the neck strap first. Mine was too small. I ended up using one of the ties for the neck strap. Also, I won't sew during Biggest Loser because I cut off the bottom hem instead of cutting off the top to adjust the length. That's why my crayon pockets are a little short. But now Tracey has been voted off so I can focus again!
I think I've used my sewing machine more in this past month than I have in the entire time I've had it. Rami bought it for me while we were engaged. Five years ago! He's definitely happy to see me using it so much. Probably because I'm letting him watch all the sports he wants without complaining.
By the way, I got the cupcake towel from Target two years ago after Valentines day. I will always pick up cute dish towels now whenever I see them on clearance. The more I sew, the more I realize I can start giving more meaningful and creative gifts. Go handmade!!

Let's be honest, one of the rewards of blogging are the comments. So show me some love! (And I stress love .) M'kay, thanks!
